Social Representation Theory meets Cultural Studies in Indonesia: Seeking new possibilities to accommodate emerging studies on culture

Resumo

Knowledge production is always contextualized according to local culture. This article discusses emerging studies on culture in Indonesia in the late 20th century, connected to national history. It highlights a movement against the previous trend of adopting Western approaches in the name of modernization, ignoring culture and history. The article emphasizes Social Representations Theory and Cultural Studies, emphasizing how representations contribute to identity formation and shape social perceptions. It explores the interconnection of these approaches and the need for a methodological strategy adapted to cultural and historical context.

Risa Permanadeli , Director of Center of Social Representations Studies

Risa Permanadeli é a fundadora e diretora do Centro de Estudos de Representações Sociais, em Jacarta, Indonésia, desde 2005. Ela obteve seu doutorado em Psicologia Social na École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales, em Paris, França. Sua pesquisa se concentra na elaboração do pensamento social em sociedades não ocidentais, especialmente na Indonésia. Ela explora o social, a história e a cultura como plataforma do pensamento social, utilizando a perspectiva das Representações Sociais para estudar a Modernidade e a modernização; o Lugar e o Papel das Mulheres; o Poder e suas representações sociais; Cultura Urbana; Mitologia, Imaginário e Tradição Oral. Ela leciona no Programa de Pós-Graduação em Estudos Europeus da Universidade da Indonésia, e também é membro do Laboratório Europeu de Psicologia Social, da Maison des Sciences de l'Homme, em Paris, França.
