Abstract

Conflict reveals layers that would remain hidden without encountering the other. It highlights tensions, limits, expectations, values, and ways of seeing the world that only emerge in relational experience. From these interactions, choices, behaviors, and events can arise that can leave deep marks on individual and collective history. We will call these marks trauma when they cause ruptures, divisions, and disorganizations that directly influence how we experience and respond to conflicts. On the other hand, relationships can also be a source of care, support, recognition, and strengthening. They can foster encounters that broaden awareness, enable the construction of new meanings, and support the development of healthier responses to adversity. We call this phenomenon resilience, a process that strengthens precisely at the confluence between the internal world of individuals and the relational and social contexts that sustain them. Throughout this text, we will begin by understanding the fundamental characteristics of conflicts, move on to the epistemology of conflicts in the 21st century, explore the connection between conflict, trauma, and resilience, and address the analysis of conflicts from a restorative justice perspective.
